Charlie Moreland Trip Report
23rd August 2023
Charlie Moreland Camp W’end
All of those camping arrived Friday fairly early.
Surprisingly the main road into camp had just been graded, the smoothest ride I’ve driven into Charlie Moreland for a long time.
The clouds hung around with a bit of precipitation to make it annoying .. Sam and I headed into Kenilworth for a wander.
We returned when Peter, Steve and Paul returned with some firewood.
Craig arrived late to an already setup the night before !! Let the campfire musings begin . The skies cleared to a starry and cool night. We woke the next morning to a beautiful sunny, cool but windy day. Dan, Claudia and kids, visitor Achilles, Amellia and kids arrived for the drive. We set of towards Jimna on the Sunday Creek Rd.
First stop a lookout back towards camp. A few bone jarring kilometres further and a patch of bulldust (no grader here for awhile) I suggested we airdown to make it a bit more comfortable.
We arrived in Jimna for a pit stop at the local Info centre run by Dave a local who has been living too long in Jimna ?? Let’s say he’s passionate and opinionated about the area, specially the local firetower preservation and track closures, that’s another story ….
Onto Peachtrees camp area for a look and bite to eat. We headed back to camp turning onto Boolumba Cr road with a stop at Peters Creek to stretch our legs with the kids leading the way clambering over the rocks.
Our drive ended at Boolumba Creek day area where we said goodbye to Achilles and family.
We managed to find a small offroad track to satisfy Dan’s need to engage 4WD !! Everyone enjoyed a good easy drive finding places they hadn’t been to before and no doubt will return to.
Back to camp and poor Catherine's caravan awning had a not to good ending with a hoop pine tree branch snapping in the strong winds, while she herself was out ,lucky . After dismantling the wrecked awning it was time for another great fire, afternoon happy hour, yarns, dinner and more yarns with plenty of laughs into the night. It got a bit chillier during the night, most packed up the next day and left Steve, Paul and Catherine to spend another night or two in the great outdoors we have here in our backyard ..
Cheers
Brad
