Corroboree 2022 Trip Report
15th October 2022
The 4wd Qld Corroboree is a gathering of all the 4wd clubs and hosted each year by a different club in a country town.
Our trip to Stanthorpe started Monday morning with Peder, Kerry. Karen and my self hooking up our caravans and heading out to Beewah before making our way up the range to Peachester then we stopped in Kilcoy, Esk and Warrick for lunch before pulling up at a free camp for the night at a little town called Dalveen.
After a night around the fire we headed to Stanthorpe Showgrounds and as we were early we parked the vans out the front and went into to town to see what Stanthorpe had to offer.
Shops, shops and more shops, so while the girls walked into everyone of them, Peder and I found a pub, and a great pub it was with the publican working behind the bar we settled in to partake in his local knowledge and wisdom.
Turns out there is 4 pubs in Stanthorpe and once the girls found us we decided to go visit a winery, a dinosuar and a pyramid.
After a fun day we headed back to grab the vans and set up at the club spot in the show grounds for the Corroboree.
Tuesday morning, up early and off to hike to the top of Bald Rock. Excellent walk. very cold at the top with the southerly blowing but the views were amazing.
While there I asked google for the nearest pub, turns out it was in Tenterfield which was 2.6klms as the crow flies, so back down the mountain and off to the pub for lunch, and a visit to the old Tenterfield Sadler Shop, before making our way back to camp to enjoy the fire.
The next couple of days were filled with you guessed it, hikes, wineries and pubs haha.
Thursday arvo saw the rest of the club slowly roll in and we spent the night catching up around the fire and talking about which of the many organised drives we would go on.
Over the weekend there was plenty of 4wd fun as well as a great dinner and 70's disco on Saturday night with raffle prizes for the lucky ones. Sunday night was the grand final on the big screens in the hall, well done to Penrif.
Monday came around way to fast and after breafast we packed up and headed home saying good bye after another great event.
Big thanks to the Toyota Landcruiser Club for hosting this year. A fantastic effort by all of the hard working volunteers.
Cheers
Jim
